Soulful Paintings

My art is all about emotion. I love watercolors because of the fluidity and ability to capture feeling and beauty in a subtle but deep way.  It’s all about being present, aligned, and trusting the energies at work. I want people to feel connected, light, and meaningful when they see my paintings. Read more below to hear my own journey and how I ended up where I am now.

About My  Art

My artistic life began when I was three. I drew all the time and then had the unfortunate experience of going to elementary school in the 1950s in Toledo, Ohio where artistic creativity was highly discouraged. (I share about this in Chapter 3, My Circle Story) in “Wiser and Wilder.”

Luckily there was still a spark left burning when I went off to college and majored in fine arts at Ohio State University, and graduated with a BFA in ceramics as well as an MA in ceramics and filmmaking in 1970. I loved clay and I found my spiritual self during those years of creating pottery, clay sculpture and putting my hands into Mother earth.  I had a pottery business for seven years selling at art fairs and Saturday Market in Eugene.

I’ve been painting for about 15 years. One dreary winter I began painting on clay with bright colored glazes and discovered that I naturally wanted to paint women, the soul of women, emotions, deep, feelings, and true feminine connection to self.  I’ve painted tiles, plates, and bowls with all kinds of colorful designs.

Canvas and paint started calling me and my journey into acrylic painting coincided with writing my book “Wiser and Wilder.” It started with doing doodle drawings for the book to illustrate my messages, and then I naturally started to add color using Copic Markers, which I still love. My first acrylic painting was the cover of my book.

I’ve always loved watercolors but shied away because I knew it was a challenging medium.  Then one day I realized what a limiting thought that was and I never went back. I love  painting with watercolors because of the fluidity and freshness, the texture of the paper, the flowiness, and ability to go so much deeper into emotions.

My art is about wisdom and inner knowing. I paint women and want to encourage women stand for what they believe in, what they are meant to BE in the world and bring forth their wisdom that the world needs now.  Recently I began painting waterfalls and flowers, anything that inspires me.
